BARLOW, Ky. (KFVS) - The body of a missing boater in western Kentucky has been found.
Ballard County Coroner Bob Morrow says crews found the body of 48-year-old Barry Hammonds late Sunday night in Big Turner Lake at the Ballard County Refuge.
According to Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Public Information Officer Garry Clark, Hammonds, another man and a woman were camping Friday night and decided to go star gazing in a 12-foot Jon boat shortly before 11 p.m.
Clark says around that time Hammonds of Lovelaceville, Ky. stood up in the boat for an unknown reason and the boat flipped over, dumping all three campers into the water.
All were rescued by search and rescue but Hammonds. He is a non-swimmer and went missing.
The other two people were able to grab the side of the boat and make it back to shore.
Officers say there were no life vests on board. And the lake is 17-20 feet at its deepest point and has very little current.
Hammonds' family will be making funeral arrangements Monday.
Morrow says no autopsy is scheduled.
