BALLARD COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Boats are on Big Turner Lake in the Ballard County Wildlife Management Area searching for a missing male boater.
Authorities say 911 dispatch got a call just before 11 p.m. about the overturned boat with a person missing.
According to Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Public Information Officer Garry Clark, two men and a woman were camping Friday night and decided to go star gazing in a 12-foot Jon boat shortly before 11 p.m.
Clark says around that time Barry Hammonds, 48, of Lovelaceville, Ky. stood up in the boat for an unknown reason and the boat flipped over, dumping all three campers into the water.
All were rescued by search and rescue but Hammonds. He is a non-swimmer and went missing.
Ballard County Search and Rescue Crews are now searching Big Turner Lake using sonar and divers for the third boater.
Officers say there were no life vests on board. And the lake is 17-20 feet at its deepest point and has very little current.
McCracken County Search and Rescue is also assisting the search.
