CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Southern Illinois University Spokesman Rod Sievers says a broken gas line on the campus was capped around 11:10 a.m. and that area of campus is reopened.
A construction crew hit a gas line near Faner Hall on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus Tuesday morning.
According to Sievers, it is a 1-inch line, unmarked line and crews are checking air quality in the surrounding buildings. He says the gas line is in a marked construction area and SIU police are keeping people away from the area.
Sievers says there are no evacuations and none are expected. Classes are in session, they started Monday.
He says Ameren crews will be on site soon to take care of things and it should be fixed by this afternoon.
