Steele woman arrested after police find wanted man in her home

STEELE, MO (KFVS) - A Steele woman faces charges in connection to a shooting on April 9 in Holland.

Fonda Baxter, 31, of Steele is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and hindering prosecution of a felony.

A person was shot in the leg on April 9 and the suspect fled on foot before police arrived.

On April 17, authorities were searching for Lee Houston of Steele on a Pemiscot County warrant for assault first degree and armed criminal action.

Pemiscot County deputies, agents with the Bootheel Drug Task Force and the Steele Police Department made contact with Baxter at 215 Cobblestone in Steele where they believed Houston was staying.

She told authorities she didn't know Houston's whereabouts but later give consent to search the home. Houston was found hiding in the attic and taken into custody.

Baxter is scheduled to appear before Judge Byron Luber on June 7 at 10 a.m.

Her bond is set at $25,000.
