MENARD, IL (KFVS) - The Menard Correctional Center has been placed on a level 1 lockdown and some inmates transferred to the maximum security Tamms Correctional Center after an assault on a member of the Menard staff Sunday.
Weapons were found, but they were not used in Sunday's incident, according to Stacey Solano, chief public information officer with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The case remains under investigation.
The inmates involved in the assault were transferred to Tamms.
Gov. Pat Quinn says budget troubles force the closing of the "super-maximum" security Tamms prison. The Tamms supermax prison is slated to close on August 31.
