3,300 out of power in southern Illinois

CRAB ORCHARD, IL (KFVS) - More than 3,000 Ameren Illinois customers are out of power in the Crab Orchard and Marion areas.

A contractor doing work in the area accidentally dropped a large rod on a subtransmission line near the Crab Orchard substation.

That caused the system to trip on both the subtransmission and distribution lines, according to Victoria Busch, an Ameren spokesperson.

The outage affects nearly 3,300 customers.

Ameren crews are working to restore power.

No word yet on how long that might take.
