Cookie Crews now in charge of prison health care

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A former prison warden with an eye-catching name has been promoted to health services administrator for the Kentucky Department of Corrections.

Cookie Crews began her career as a corrections officer in 1984 and has been steadily advancing in her career since then. She has served as warden at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex, the Frankfort Career Development Center, the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women and most recently at the Kentucky State Reformatory, the state's largest prison.

Kentucky Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson said in a statement Thursday that Crews has the experience and leadership ability to oversee the medical mission of the prison system.

A native of Hardy in Pike County, Crews is president of the Southern States Correctional Association.
