MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - A Mayfield man faces charges for several daytime burglaries in Graves County.
Larry French, 42, of Mayfield is charged with burglary 2nd and theft by unlawful taking over $500, receiving stolen property O/$500, fleeing and evading 1st degree on foot, possession of controlled substance 1st cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief 2nd, terroristic threatening 3rd, giving officer false name and multiple traffic offenses.
Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon reports says French is responsible for a recent rash of burglaries in the K121, K131 and Hopewell Road area. He has been sought for several days.
A Graves County deputy spotted French's vehicle and performed a traffic stop just off of Macedonia Street on Mangrum Drive in Mayfield at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday.
During the stop, the deputy noticed some expensive watches in a display box in the backseat of the vehicle.
French gave the deputy a fake name and social security number, according to Sheriff Redmon. When French was ordered to exit the vehicle, he ran into a backyard of a home on Mangrum Drive. Two deputies followed in a foot chase. French jumped a chain link fence and ran through several yards along Macedonia Street and was caught in a backyard of a house near Weda Street.
Sheriff Redmon says there was an outstanding parole violation warrant on file that had flagged French as "a flight risk and assaultive."
While on the scene investigating, the Graves County Sheriff's Office got a call of a recent burglary in the same area.
The sheriff confirmed the items inside French's vehicle and inside French's pockets had just been stolen from the house. French later confessed to the burglary during an interview at the jail.
Deputies also responded to a house on E. Water Street in Mayfield where French had been staying for the past few days and recovered some items from another burglary that had recently occurred in the same area.
