Preservationist worried about 200 year old home's future

STE. GENEVIEVE, MO (KFVS) -

In Saint Genevieve, Mo. a local preservationist is concerned about the condition of a 200 year old home on Main Street.

The Antoine O'Neille house was built in 1810 and is said to be home of one of the state's first silversmiths.

The First Presbyterian Church owns the building which was damaged by fire about 30 years ago, and we're told is infested with termites.

No word on what the church has planned with the structure, but one man's convinced the church wants tear it down and put up a parking lot.

"There needs to be an intervention, and a structural intervention on an emergency basis," said Preservationist Tim Conley. "Not six months from now, but immediately, they need to get into that house with a contractor and do things to reinforce the structure so it doesn't collapse."

Efforts to reach someone at the church today were unsuccessful.
