Crash involving alcohol injures 4 in Marshall County

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Marshall County Sheriff's deputies say a Gilbertsville man was driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed with another vehicle nearly head on.

Cory A. Burkeen, 24, of Gilbertsville was driving north on Highway 95 and Lake H. McGregor, 20, of Benton, was driving south on Hwy. 95 on Memorial Day night.

Maggie K. Adams, 19, of Calvert City, was a passenger in McGregor's vehicle. She told sheriff's deputies that Burkeen swerved suddenly into the path of McGregor. McGregor swerved to try to avoid a collision, but the vehicles collided nearly head on around 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Sheriff's deputies say Burkeen has a strong odor of alcohol on him and alcoholic beverages were found next to the vehicle with the debris from the vehicle.

Burkeen was taken to Vanderbilt Hospital for his injuries.

McGregor and Adams were taken to an emergency room for their injuries.

Two passengers in Burkeen's vehicle, Landon T. Lovett, 19, of Benton, and Shane D. McKenty, 20, of Benton were taken to Vanderbilt for their injuries.

No word on whether any charges have been filed.
