Man charged with assault on officer, drug paraphernalia

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A man from Texas faces charges after Cape Girardeau police say he pulled a gun on an officer.

Officers were searching for a wanted person and thought that person was staying at the Town House Inn on North Kingshighway when they knocked on a door at the motel.

Cape Girardeau police say no one answered, but the officers could hear someone inside.  Then, the door opened with a man standing with a gun.  Police took it away from him.

Police also found a dollar bill with a white substance on it.

Jonathan Quentin Fernandez, 22, of Paris, Texas is charged with assault on a law enforcement office and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

Fernandez was not the wanted person officers were originally searching for.
