HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - Today's heat certainly didn't keep the crowds from enjoying the rides and food at this year's HerrinFesta Italiana celebration.
The midway at the festival opened up after Saturday morning's parade.
People were finding some pretty creative ways to beat the heat while having fun.
Lemon shakeups were in big demand, and going around and around on the rides helped the kids cool down.
"Today the heat index is so bad out here," said David Rush of Marion. "I'm in a cut-off shirt and everything. But it's bad out here that heat is just coming on. Get all the shade you can get, I'd advise everybody to get that shade. It's not worth the dehydration. And drink a lot of water."
Some people decided to beat the heat and head inside the Herrin Civic Center to watch this year's big nose competition. This year's winner was Joe Lernner of Herrin.
HerrinFesta continues through Memorial Day evening.
