West Frankfort man was driver in crash that killed highway painter

O'FALLON, Ill. (KFVS/AP) - Authorities say a West Frankfort man was involved in a crash Tuesday that killed an Illinois Department of Transportation contract worker and injured three others who were painting stripes on a highway.

An Illinois State Police spokesman says 34-year-old Michael Jeter of West Frankfort, Illinois drove off the left side of Interstate 64 near O'Fallon, striking four workers.

All four victims were taken to area hospitals, and 38-year-old Dennis Beard of Pocahontas, was later pronounced dead.

Injured were two other Pocahontas men - 39-year-old Kory Links and 32-year-old Adam Evans - and 40-year-old Brian Moore of Hoyleton.

The workers were employed by Briteway Striping Services of New Baden, which was hired to paint new stripes on the highway.
