Mexican citizen sentenced to jail time for illegal US re-entry

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A Mexican citizen was sentenced to time behind bars on Wednesday for illegal re-entry into the United States.

Juan Silva-Cruz was sentenced to 6 months on one felony count of unlawfully
re-entering and remaining in the United States, according to the US attorney's office.

He appeared before US District Judge Steven Limbaugh, Jr.

Silva-Cruz was arrested for a traffic offense in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. He was identified by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as a Mexican citizen illegally in the United States, according to the US attorney's office, eastern district.

According to the US attorney's office, He was then taken to the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in St. Louis, Missouri where a check revealed that he had a prior immigration history.

Authorities discovered that Silva-Cruz had previously been deported from the United States to Mexico on several occasions.

After Silva-Cruz was removed from the United States on November 27, 2009, he reentered the United States without having obtained the express consent of the Attorney General of the United States or to the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission to the United States.

    Caruthersville officers said they arrested 46-year-old Kenneth Flanagan of Caruthersville on two active warrants through Pemiscot County for abuse or neglect of a child.
