Scholarship awarded in honor of Harrisburg tornado victim

HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) -

A scholarship created to honor the memory of the youngest victim of the Harrisburg tornado has been awarded for the first time.

Victoria Hamblin of Eldorado received the Jaylynn Ferrell Memorial Scholarship.

Ferrell's mother congratulated Hamblin on the award earlier this month.

The scholarship goes to a Southeastern Illinois nursing student.

Jaylynn Ferrell graduated from Southeastern's nursing program. Ferrell had just begun her career as a registered nurse (RN) and was employed at Harrisburg Medical Center.
