CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

People in a Cape Girardeau neighborhood say they're fed up with a recent rash of burglaries and vandalism.

The vandals hit homes on Sussex and Derbyshire Lane Monday night.

Neighbors say they slashed tires, broke into cars and even shattered a glass front door.

Residents estimate the damage from last night at around $5,000.

To make matters worse, the same homes have been hit multiple times over the past few years.

Now people in that neighborhood say they have to take matters into their own hands.

"We'd just like to get the word out that this is going on and maybe start a neighborhood watch," says Ken Cantrell, whose tires were slashed. "We may put some security cameras up to try to catch these people."

Rick Sample had his tires slashed and the glass in his front door busted out. He says the damage will cost about $3,000.

"I'm angry and frustrated," Sample said. "We just want to know what's going on to see if this is happening in other parts of Cape."

Cape Police have investigated each of the previous reports of vandalism.

They are still under investigation.
