CARTER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Missouri's elk herd doubled in size over the weekend.

A second batch of wild elk from Kentucky was taken to Peck Ranch Conservation Area in northwestern Carter County around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

A truck carrying 22 mature cows, three 1-year-old cows, three 2-year-old bulls, six 1-year-old bulls and one newborn bull arrived at the conservation area.

The elk were ushered into holding pens. Within an hour, the elk were resting in the shade and grazing on clover.
