MARSHALL-TRIGG COUNTY LINE, KY (KFVS) - The cargo vessel that crashed into a western Kentucky bridge is scheduled to pass under it again on Friday evening.
A state transportation spokesman says the Delta Mariner should be passing under the Eggner's Ferry Bridge between 5-7 p.m.
The large cargo vessel crashed into the Eggner's Ferry Bridge in western Kentucky in February.
The ship took out a huge section of the bridge.
Crews worked to remove the debris from the ship and it was later was moved to the James Marine shipyard in Paducah.
According to a Foss Maritime spokeswoman Suzanne Lagoni, repairs were made and the ship passed inspection.
The cargo on board was not damaged. The ship proceeded its route to Cape Canaveral, Florida.
A 322-foot replacement span was being put into place this week on the bridge.
Meanwhile, contractors are optimistic about re-opening the bridge on Memorial Day Weekend.
Contractors are placing the last of the reinforcing steel and forms required for pouring a concrete deck on the new span this weekend.
Engineers say security will be stepped up around the bridge this weekend to ensure safety at the site.
