PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) -

A Perryville man is charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say he left his child in a vehicle at a local bar.

James H. Waller, 26, of Perryville is charged with endangering the welfare of a child 1st degree.

Waller's bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

Perryville Police Chief Keith Tarrillion says officers responded to a call from a concerned citizen about a child left inside a vehicle at a local bar on May 16 at 11:22 p.m.

Officers found two men sitting outside the bar in front of a green Mazda passenger car.  As the officer approached the two men, the officer saw a 2-year-old child in the backseat of the car asleep with the windows up.

Witnesses say both men had been inside the bar for more than an hour.

The father of the child, James Waller, had been playing pool and drinking alcohol while inside the bar, according to Perryville Police.

Waller was arrested at the scene and faces the charge of endangering the welfare of a child 1st degree for leaving the 2 year old in the vehicle unattended.

Charges have been filed against a second person but that person has not been arrested.
