MARION, IL (KFVS) - Crews put out a fire on the grounds neighboring the Marion prison early Thursday evening.
According to Sheriff Bennie Vick, the fire started in an outbuilding.
According to prison officials, it seems to have started as the result of an issue with an electric table saw.
Staff discovered small fire around 5:45 p.m. in an outbuilding which houses the prison's carpentry shop.
Officials say the building is on land neighboring the prison, and the outbuilding was unoccupied at the time.
Several fire departments went the scene and were able to quickly put the fire out, according to prison officials.
A spokesperson for the prison says the building suffered "very minimal damage" due to the fast response from the fire departments.
According to Sheriff Vick, no inmates were evacuated or ever in any danger.
