Bonne Terre police investigating attempted child abductions

BONNE TERRE, MO (KFVS) -

Bonne Terre Police are investigating two attempted child abductions on Wednesday evening.

According to Sgt. Benjamin Adams, two white males approached a 7-year-old girl and tried to coax her into their truck.  Sgt. Adams says the girl then ran away and the suspects left the area.

Police say a similar incident happened earlier Wednesday evening in Terre du Lac, also in St. Francois County, Mo.

Both incidents have similar suspects and vehicle descriptions, according to Bonne Terre Police.

The suspects are described as an overweight white male and one white male with a beard with some gray in it.

The vehicle is described as a black extended cab truck, possibly a Ford Ranger or F-Series, with a ladder in the bed.  The tailgate on the truck was possibly primer colored.

Police say they are working with local school districts and child care facilities to ensure the safety of area children.

Police say they are following some strong leads.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bonne Terre Police Department at (573) 431-3131.
