Bloomfield Post Office to reopen Thursday

BLOOMFIELD, MO (KFVS) - According to Richard Watkins with the United States Postal Service, the Bloomfield Post Office will reopen Thursday, May 17, 2012.

"The Bloomfield, MO Post Office is safe for USPS personnel to re-occupy and resume normal work activities," said Watkins in an e-mail correspondence.

A construction crew worked all day inside the post office on Wednesday replacing tiles in the floors.

The post office closed more than three weeks ago over asbestos concerns.

According to the USPS, recent air quality tests showed the air is safe.

However, the air had to be tested again Wednesday after the crews finished their work.

Again, the USPS reports the building is safe.

People in town say the Bloomfield post office is crucial, especially for those who have post office boxes.

Right now, those people have to go to Dexter to get their mail.

"It's been a real inconvenience," said Evelyn Hardin of Bloomfield.

City leaders tell Heartland News they will be happy to see this matter fully resolved as they know it has been a real headache for all involved.
