The paper reports Private First Class Richard McNulty III died when an improvised explosive device when off during his patrol.

McNulty leaves behind a pregnant wife, and was due to come home in three weeks.

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) released this statement.

"I am incredibly saddened to learn of the tragic loss of PFC McNulty, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. I cannot imagine their heartbreak at learning this news. At the same time, I hope the pain of their loss is tempered by the fact that this extraordinary young man was a wonderful example to so many people in our community and our country.

Like so many patriotic young Americans who wear the uniform of our nation, PFC McNulty took great pride in the noble work of defending our freedoms. Our entire nation owes him a debt of gratitude for his selfless service and sacrifice."
