WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) - A Zeigler man was arrested after West Frankfort Police say he tried to break in to several houses to steal prescription medication.

Chekoda W. Frick, 26, of Zeigler was arrested for residential burglary and attempted burglaries.

West Frankfort Police received a call reporting a burglary around 8:15 p.m. on May 9.

The caller said she saw a man looking into the windows of a home in the 600 block of South Adams Street and that when she walked toward her neighbor's house, she saw the man had removed a screen to a window and was entering through the window. As she called out to him, he ran away.

As detectives were searching, they were led to several other homes where residents reported attempted burglaries.  Those homes were in the 500 block of south Madison, 800 block of east Summers, 500 block of south Adams, 1000 block of east Garland and the 600 block of south Madison.

Some of the residents reported that a man had knocked on their door asking to use the bathroom.  While some declined, one person did let the man in to use the restroom.

Police found Frick at 907 E. Cleveland Street and recovered clothing worn during the burglaries and other evidence.

Frick told police he knocked on doors asking to use the bathroom.  He told police if he was allowed to use the bathroom, he would look for prescription medication to steal.  He also told police if no one answered the door, he would try to forcefully enter the home to steal prescription medication.

Police say they were able to quickly arrest the suspect due to neighbors being alert and knowledgeable of normal activity in their neighborhood.

Frick was taken to the Franklin County Jail on charges of residential burglary and attempted burglaries.
