DORENA, MO (KFVS) - The Dorena-Hickman ferry service is getting a new boat.
The captain of the ferry tells Heartland News the new barge is 95% percent done.
Once finished, crews will bring the barge to Dorena, from Saint Louis.
We understand the new barge can hold four more cars than the current ferry.
"A lot of folks aren't wanting to drive down the interstate as high as gas prices are nowadays," said Captain Edward Floyd, Contracted Operator. "It's easier to just drive here, and be there."
The money for the new ferry comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed by the president to create jobs in the slipping economy.
