Gov. Nixon to announce more assistance for flood repair

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - Missouri Governor Jay Nixon will announce additional resources to help several towns and counties repair and rebuild infrastructure damaged by the 2011 flood.

Nixon will make the announcement at 2 p.m. at the Mississippi County Courthouse.

The governor made several stops in Mississippi and New Madrid counties after the Birds Point levee was breached last year.

Nixon was strongly against the breaking of the levee, but the Army Corps of Engineers made the final call.

Nixon has since promised to get the area back up and running again.

The state even picked up a multi-million dollar bill to build a temporary levee before the Corps of Engineers could build it back to its original height.
