CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A Cape Girardeau man faces several charges after police say he assaulted a man and knocked a 9-month-old baby to the floor.

Lee Williams, 48, of Cape Girardeau is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer class C felony, assault third a class A misdemeanor, and trespassing in he first degree a class B misdemeanor.

Cape Girardeau Police say Williams knocked on the door of an apartment and punched a man in the face when he answered the door around 7:30 p.m. on May 3.

As Williams entered the apartment, a brief fight occurred and police say the victim's 9-month-old child was knocked to the floor.

Williams left the apartment and flagged down a police officer in the 400 block of South Pacific telling the officer he had just been involved in an altercation with another man over personal reasons.

A witness inside the apartment gave the same information as the victim.

The victim refused medical attention for himself and his child which did not appear to have any injuries.

While Williams was at the police station, police say he became combative in the booking room and grabbed an officer by his gun belt and pushed him backward in an attempt to take him to the ground.

The officer deployed his taser and Williams quit resisting.
