CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - One man was killed and four people were injured in a crash in Calloway County on Sunday.
Danny Pittman, 66, of New Concord, Ky. was killed in the crash that happened around 11:13 a.m.
Kentucky State Police say James Sasse, 27, of Murray was driving his 2008 Chevy Impala south on KY 121 South, when he tried to pass a 2012 Nissan Murano driven by Danny Pittman.
Sasse saw an oncoming 2009 Chevy pickup truck driven by Gerald Cowley and tried to steer his car back into the southbound lane when he struck Pittman's car in the rear.
Sasse lost control of his car and left the right side of the road and struck a tree.
After being struck, Pittman's car traveled into the northbound lane and into the path of the Cowley's oncoming pickup truck, causing a head on collision.
All drivers were taken to Murray/Calloway Hospital for injuries. Sasse had a 6-year-old girl in his car who was admitted to the hospital.
Pittman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calloway County Coroner. Patsy Pittman, 62, was a passenger in Danny Pittman's car. She was also injured and admitted to the hospital.
Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt, according to KSP.
Trooper Michael Bennett and Advanced Collision Reconstructionist Trooper Thomas Clifton was assisted on scene by the Calloway County Fire Department, Murray Fire Department, Murray/Calloway EMS, Calloway County Sheriff's Department, and Calloway County Coroner.
KY 121 South was closed at the scene for six hours.
The investigation continues by Kentucky State Police.
