Nearly century-old tree struck by lightning in Saline County

SALINE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

An early morning lightning strike struck a nearly 100 year old tree in Carrier Mills Saturday morning.

According to the sheriff's office, the property owner, Terry Felty, and his neighbors heard the strike at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. 

Bark from the tree was thrown nearly 200 feet in all directions and numerous splits are visible along the tree trunk, according to the sheriff's office.

No one was injured.

The tree is located next to the Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, Illinois.
