Cancer patients in Johnson County got a little help on Sunday from a rubber duck race.
The Bella Terra Winery is where the 6th Annual Duck Race was held on Sunday afternoon. And along with a wide range of activities for families to enjoy doing, they also got to help people suffering with cancer in Johnson County.
"We started this six years ago in honor of my sister Heather Treat, who died from colon cancer," said Robin Harper-Whitehead. "We know that a lot of people have insurance and that helps out a whole lot. But there's a lot of hidden expenses, like if they're out of work maybe they can't afford the groceries. Or maybe they just need help going back and forth to their treatments."
And over the six years of the event they're been able to hand out $400 checks to more than five hundred people, totaling more than $175,000.
"This isn't because you need it, this is just a gift because you're going through a very rough time," said Harper-Whitehead.
