Overturned semi on I-55 ties up traffic

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Crews were on the scene of a semi-tractor trailer wreck on Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau County.  Southbound lanes were closed around 12:15 p.m. for the removal of the truck.

The wreck happened shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday morning at the 101.6 mile marker.

Police say the southbound interstate lane was temporally shut down when removing the truck.

Police were directing traffic. And, traffic was slow through the area as crews cleaned up the wreck.

The semi tractor trailer was on its side blocking one lane of southbound traffic and in median. 

The driver was uninjured according to Cape Police.

Police say the semi was southbound, while a car on shoulder of road then pulled into traffic in front of the semi.  The semi driver veered to the left to miss the car and the truck got caught in the cables in the median.

Cape Police say the cables cut into the top of the truck on the driver's side.

Police are looking for information concerning a black car that pulled out in front of the semi.  If you have any information, call the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
