Man pleads not guilty to murder of son

CATRON, MO (KFVS) -

A Stoddard County man accused of the murder of his son pleaded not guilty Monday.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff's Office, Charles Goforth, 40, is charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of Patrick Goforth.

Patrick Goforth, 20, of the Catron area received a single gunshot wound in the incident. Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner says Goforth was taken to a Sikeston hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

According to Prosecutor Russ Oliver, the Charles Goforth is Patrick Goforth's father.

Patrick Goforth died on the way to a Sikeston hospital. Autopsy results are pending, according to Oliver.

The major case squad was activated and Charles Goforth was arrested.

He was taken to the Stoddard County Jail where his bond is set at $75,000 cash.

Goforth is scheduled for his arraignment on Thursday, May 10 at 9 a.m.

An investigation into what led up to the shooting continues.
