The Caruthersville Humane Society is offering a reward after a cat that was set on fire died in Hayti.
The animal control officer in Hayti received a call about a dying cat in the 200 block of East Jackson in Hayti.
Neighbors in the area said they saw the cat on fire earlier that evening.
The cat was taken to a veterinarian, but it died from its injuries.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the person or persons who set the cat on fire.
Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward and help catch the person or persons responsible.
"This cat suffered horrible injuries resulting in its death," said Karol Wilcox, President and Humane Investigator for the Caruthersville Humane Society, in a press released. "We would certainly like information to refer the person or persons responsible to law enforcement for possible prosecution. There is just no excuse for something like this."
