MARION, IL (KFVS) - Crews are on the scene of a chemical spill in Marion.
The spill happened around 6:15 a.m. Thursday.
Marion firefighters say a tanker truck left the Aisin Plant around 6:15 Thursday morning, but the tank was apparently not correctly secured. As the truck moved, the corrosive chemical used by Aisin to clean aluminum sloshed out of the tank and onto Redco Road.
Fire Chief Jack Reed says he's glad the spill was noticed before the truck reached Route 13.
The road is closed down as environmental crews work to clean up the mess and IEMA investigates.
The chief says the inhalation hazard was minimal because it happened outside on a breezy day.
However, because the road was shut down, three businesses including a daycare had to close up shop because they could not get in or out of their parking lot.
