17 sworn in as new American citizens in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Seventeen people became U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony in Cape Girardeau.

Judge Stephen Limbaugh swore in the new southeast Missouri residents during a naturalization service Tuesday at Cape's federal courthouse.

U.S. Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson (R) says these citizens play a crucial part in America's future.

"This is your country," said Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R). "Do everything you can to ensure its traditions endure. Do everything you can do to grow opportunity and foster great communities. Work as hard as you can to put down deep roots."

These naturalized citizens come from countries as close as Canada and Mexico, and as far away as Pakistan, China, and Somalia.
