PERRY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Crews found the body of a 21-year-old man in Old Appleton Tuesday.
Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf says the death is considered accidental drowning.
The Perry County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call around 2:15 p.m. from a caller at the old iron bridge over Apple Creek in Old Appleton saying a friend had jumped off or fell of the bridge and did not come back up from the water.
Search crews found the body of Aaron Howe, 21, of Old Appleton around 3:30 p.m.
"This sort of thing happens way too often" said Perry County Sheriff Gary J. Schaaf. "The signs on the bridge clearly say no jumping from bridge. The water under the bridge is around 8 foot deep. It would be easy to hit bottom if jumping from that height. It is not safe to jump or even hang off the outside of the railing. We had another incident almost identical to this in October 2010. This is a tragedy, and I hope others learn from this."
