Proposal to charge kids to ride bus to school, changing Missouri's state slogan

How much would you pay to make sure your child got to school? One proposal in the state of Illinois would include a fee for students who ride the bus to school. It's the latest target in a budget crunch that could affect a lot of families.  Holly Brantley talked to superintendents, parents, and a state spokesperson.

A school official says some insects caused an evacuation at Blanchard Elementary in Cape Girardeau, Mo. this morning. An administrator with the school says some dirt-dobbers clogged up an air intake at the school. A carbon monoxide detector went off causing the evacuation.

Charleston, Mo. police are investigating a shooting that happened Saturday night. One man was shot in the upper leg.  Charleston police are also looking into two suspicious fires that happened in the last couple of weeks.  Anyone with information about the shooting or fires is asked to call police.

Charges have been filed against a man accused of setting a home on fire near Lilbourn, Mo. while the homeowners were on vacation.

A Missouri lawmaker wants tourism officials and government agencies in the Show-Me State to start using another slogan he believes tells more about the state's heritage and attractions. Christy Millweard hear from a tourism bureau spokesperson.

A California man has filed a lawsuit against a motorcycle maker and a motorcycle seat maker after he claims he suffered injuries that hurt his sexual life.

Test results are back for the remaining DNA sample from a woman family members believed could be Elizabeth Gill from Cape Girardeau. The toddler disappeared from the yard of her home on South Lorimer Street in Cape Girardeau in 1965.

The Quinn administration says it will repair 2,300 miles of Illinois road and 500 bridges over the next six years as it uses the last dollars from a massive public-works program.

A new state report says federal authorities are investigating the Illinois Department of Transportation for improperly spending road funds on a 2008 summer jobs program.

Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen released findings from a financial review of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. A team of auditors discovered what they believed to be "a toxic culture of entitlement" within the Kentucky Department of Agriculture during the administration of former Commissioner Richie Farmer, a University of Kentucky basketball icon who ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor last year.

The American Red Cross always responds in time of need.  This week, the Red Cross in southeast Missouri is holding an instructor institute to help teach volunteers valuable life-saving skills.
