LILBOURN, MO (KFVS) - Charges have been filed against a man accused of setting a home on fire in New Madrid County.
Dennis Lee Wolfe, 56, of Lilbourn is charged with arson second degree, burglary second degree, and stealing.
New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens says Wolfe was charged Friday and arraigned Monday morning for a fire that destroyed a home near Lilbourn.
Stevens says the fire broke out at the home early Thursday morning just outside Lilbourn, Mo. on Highway D.
Family members say they searched through the rubble over the weekend to find any mementos they could salvage.
The homeowners were on vacation when the fire started.
According to the sheriff's office, the man broke into the home, stole several items then set house on fire.
Family members say the couple lived in the home for 49 years, and raised their four daughters there. They say they're sad to lose memories and mementoes, but glad no one was hurt.
"It was a total loss, beautifully manicured yard and home, just a tragedy," said New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens.
