CHICAGO (AP) - The Illinois Department of Labor has marked Workers' Memorial Day to honor those killed and injured on the job.
Saturday's events included memorial services across the state.
Taking part were fellow workers and relatives who lost loved ones to injuries or illnesses from the workplace.
Department Director Joseph Costigan says they should be remembered for working "tirelessly to better the lives of their families and communities."
He says the day's events should remind people of the value of workers' lives and the need to make sure workplaces are healthy and safe.
