Semi fire shuts down interstate, 7 departments respond to business fire

Tonight on Heartland News: Seven different fire crews were battling a large blaze late this morning at the Sedgewickville Variety Shop #4, according to Bollinger County Sheriff Leo McElrath.

Traffic was backed up for nearly six miles on Interstate 57 this morning due to a semi-truck fire near Benton, Illinois.

Jaime Travers says a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 7 p.m. CT for parts of southern Illinois.  Jaime will tell us what to expect this evening and tomorrow where you live tonight on Heartland News.

A former southern Illinois church building was destroyed by fire Friday night.

Smoking could get more costly as some seeking to raise Missouri's lowest-in-the-nation cigarette tax expect to submit signatures this week to put the issue before voters.

Several drug take-back locations were around the Heartland for the 4th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  Arnold Wyrick will have more from Marion tonight on Heartland News.

Portageville Police are investigating an overnight armed robbery at a gas station.

The number of children being diagnosed with concussions doubled in recent years, emergency room data suggest, but the injuries don't seem to be getting any worse.
