VILLA RIDGE, IL (KFVS) - A Villa Ridge man was sentenced to three years in prison for domestic battery.
William A. Kern, 33, of 301 Dakota Road, Villa Ridge in Pulaski County was sentenced on one count of aggravated domestic battery.
Under a plea agreement, Kern also pleaded guilty to one count of driving under the influence. Kern was arrested on the DUI charge by Illinois State Police on June 10, 2011 on Interstate 57 in Pulaski County.
Kern had originally been charged with one count of unlawful possession of weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony, two counts aggravated domestic battery, both Class 2 felonies, one count of possession of firearm without requisite firearm owner's I.D. card, a Class 3 felony, and one count of resisting a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor, according to the Union County State's Attorney's Office.
Kern was arrested on May 17, 2011 after Pulaski County Sheriff's deputies and Illinois State Police responded to Kern's home.
The Union County State's Attorney's Office was appointed as Special Prosecutor in the case.
