Cape Girardeau man injured in IL camping area

POMONA, IL (KFVS) - Deputies responded to an injured camper early Saturday in rural Pomona, Illinois.

According to the sheriff's office, they received a call shortly after 6:30 a.m. from Christopher Richards, 27, of Cape Girardeau who said he slipped and fell at the end of Cave Hollow Road around 5 a.m. and might have a broken leg and need assistance.

Deputies and county EMS responded and found Richards on Cove Hollow Road off of Dutch Ridge Road.   Authorities said he was not mobile and had a leg injury.

Richards could not be carried back through the woods because of the rough terrain, according to deputies.

The Jackson County Search and Rescue was called and a boat removed him from the area.

Deputies say Richards was taken to the Pomona Boat Launch on Cedar Lake, and was then taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment.
