CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - There is an informational meeting being held Friday on school consolidation Friday in southern Illinois.
The meeting is at the SIUC Student Center Auditorium at 1255 Lincoln Drive from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Carbondale.
Lt. Governor Sheila Simon says a draft proposal suggest no small schools will be forced to consolidate, but the state wants schools with less than 750 students to look into closing.
The committee says these consolidated schools would see lower taxes and more money for their districts.
Many people living in those districts though say they do not want to see any of their schools close, no matter how small.
