Tamaroa man turns himself in on reckless conduct charge

SUNFIELD, IL (KFVS) - A Tamaroa man turned himself in to the Perry County Sheriff's Office after a workplace incident left another man in a coma.

Shannon Wallace, 28, turned himself in at 1 p.m. Friday, April 20, according to Perry County Sheriff Keith Kellerman.

The sheriff says some sort of altercation happened the morning of April 2 at Kellerman Powder Coating north of DuQuoin in Sunfield.

Jorge Perez's Family members say he was in a coma at a St. Louis hospital.

Perez suffered trauma to his face and head. Family members say he has undergone numerous emergency skull and brain surgeries.

Family members say the alleged altercation involved a co-worker.

Wallace is accused of acting in a reckless manner and causing injury to Jorge Perez.

According to court documents from the state's attorney, Perez became unconscious after Wallace was acting in a reckless manner and put him in a headlock.  The state's attorney says this allowed Perez to fall and hit the floor which caused Perez' head to hit the concrete and become unconscious.

Wallace's bond was set at $20,000.

Wallace posted $2,000 cash bond and was released from the Perry County Jail.
