One man is on a mission to breathe new life into downtown Dexter.

Designer, artist, and writer Brian Crawford recently bought a two-story brick building on East Stoddard Street.  He is renovating it from top to bottom.

Crawford plans to transform the structure into a studio to showcase his interior design skills, along with specialty items and local artwork upstairs.

He says he hopes the effort has a big impact.

"Bring in some local activity with art and music and things and make it not so much about me, but about the whole community," Crawford said.

Crawford plans to open "The Loft" and its upstairs galleries called "Shops at the loft" in early June.

He also coming up with a plan for the second building he bought right across the street.
