Pet owners face parvo outbreak in Bollinger County

BOLLINGER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The head of the Bollinger County Stray Project warns pet owners they are facing what she calls a serious outbreak of parvo.

Marilyn Neville says the highly contagious disease usually becomes a problem in the fall, but the mild winter may be to blame right now.

Dogs with parvo show tell-tale symptoms like loss of appetite, vomiting, and lack of energy.

Treatment can be very expensive and animals can still spread the virus weeks after they are considered healed.

Dogs can be vaccinated to prevent parvo and should be kept away from areas thought to be contaminated.

If you have any questions about your own pet, be sure to check with your veterinarian.
