Deputies find car theft suspect hiding in the woods

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Deputies found a man accused of stealing a car overnight hiding in the woods Saturday in Butler County.

Jacob Kalawaia, 26, was charged with first degree burglary and first degree tampering with a motor vehicle, according to Sgt. Brandon Wagner.

Wagner says Kalawaia was accompanied by a juvenile overnight and stole his brother's girlfriend's car.  The two went to the girlfriend's mother's home.

Using the girlfriend's keys, Wagner says Kalawaia entered the home and stole $86, a computer, and a Nintendo system.

Deputies talked to the juvenile in question, and got Kalawaia's location in the woods off County Road 487.

When deputies announced themselves, Kalawaia came out of the woods and surrendered.

All stolen items were returned to the owner.

The juvenile is being further questioned by deputies. Kalawaia was taken to the Butler County Jail.
