1 killed in multi-vehicle crash on Route 169 in IL

KARNAK, IL (KFVS) - According to Illinois State Police, one person was killed and several people were injured after a multi-car crash Friday afternoon in Pulaski County.

Sandra Key, 40, of Jacksonville, Illinios was killed in the crash, according to Illinois State Police.

According to the State Police, Daryn Laschanzky, 18, of Karnak was driving a Pontiac and tried to pass another vehicle and hit a Jeep driven by Jesse ogle, 19, of Metropolis head on.

Multiple people were airlifted to area hospitals including an eight-month-old child.

State Police say Key was a passenger in Laschansky's vehicle.

Route 169 near Karnak was shut down for around 1 1/2 hours after the multi-vehicle crash.  The road re-opened shortly before 5 p.m. One couple said they waited from about 3:15 PM to 4:40 PM for the road to open.

This was at Karnak Spur which is at the intersection of Route 169 and Route 37.

A neighbor says she's upset this happened near her home, and says there hasn't been a wreck in that stretch of road for many years.

State Police continues to investigate this crash.
