I-55 reduced in New Madrid County after wreck

NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - One lane of Interstate 55 was closed in New Madrid County late Thursday afternoon after a vehicle crash.

It happened around 4 p.m. at the 36.6 mile marker in the southbound lanes.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle's passenger Maraim L. Garza, 37, of Grand Rapids, Michigan received moderate injuries in the crash and was taken by EMS to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital.

Troopers say an SUV driven by Gabriel Belmares, 18, of Grand Rapids ran off the left side of the interstate, the driver then overcorrected, overturned and slid off the right side of the road.

The vehicle landed on its side, according to Missouri State Trooper Clark Parrott.

The passing lane of the southbound lanes in that area was open while crews cleaned up the crash.
