PULASKI COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A former southern Illinois sheriff and mayor has died.

Gene Dixon of Olmsted, Illinois, a former Pulaski County sheriff for 12 years and also former mayor of Mounds died of natural causes on Wednesday at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, according to Jones Funeral Homes.

Dixon was also past president of the Illinois Sheriff's Association and on the village board for the Village of Olmsted.

According to Jones Funeral Home, the funeral for the former sheriff will be Saturday, April 14 at 10 a.m. at the Caledonia Community Church in Olmsted with full military honors at the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the Caledonia Community Church in Olmsted.

There will be a law enforcement walk through at 6:45 p.m. followed by Shiners walk through and a Masonic Service at 7 p.m., according to Jones Funeral Home.
